Patient LHI is Norwood Class 4 with straight, medium weight hair, a donor density of 1.8 hairs/cm2 and a slightly tight scalp. He had two large-graft “hair plug” transplants in the 1980s that left him with a “pluggy” hairline and a thin appearance in the front part of his scalp. The first phase of the repair consisted of removing 82 of the largest grafts and re-implanting them as individual follicular units. In the second phase, 3,466 follicular unit grafts were harvested from the donor area and transplanted to the frontal hairline to soften it and add fullness to the front part of the scalp. Three smaller FUT sessions were performed (instead of one larger session) to ensure maximum growth in the scar tissue.
