Theradome

Theradome™ LH80 PRO laser helmet; produced by Theradome, Inc. in Silicon Valley, California; is a clinical strength, at-home low level light laser therapy device (LLLT) for the hair loss consumer market. The device is FDA approved for the treatment of Androgenetic Alopecia in women (female pattern hair loss). FDA approval for use with male patients is pending.

The Theradome™ LH80 PRO laser helmet consists of 80 highly-efficient lasers that generate 440 joules per treatment and maximum scalp coverage of 582cm2. The lasers penetrate to a depth of 1.5mm. This is comparable to the strength and scalp coverage of office-based laser therapy devices used in hair loss and hair restoration clinics.

Like all LLLT devices, the proposed mechanism of action of the LH80 PRO increases blood flow to the scalp and hair follicles, stimulates microcirculation, improves cellular metabolism and protein synthesis. It reduces the effects of protein blocking enzymes, promoting thickness and density.

Treatments are recommended twice a week for 20 minutes, ideally after showering and then towel-drying your hair.

The laser helmet device works in three steps:

1. Minimize hair loss (4-18 weeks into treatment)
2. Reverse miniaturization for thicker, fuller hair (18-26 weeks of continuous use)
3. Renew hair growth (within 26-52 weeks of starting treatment)

After initial treatment, Theradome, Inc., recommends a maintenance schedule of 1-2 laser hair therapy treatments per week.

The LH80 PRO is most effective in patients with early, mild, or moderate hair loss. Hair growth has not been documented in patients with frontal or advanced hair loss.

Patients treating hair loss with the use of medications – such as Rogaine (minoxidil), Propecia (finasteride), or Dutasteride – can benefit from the use of the laser helmet in addition to medications, however Propecia (finasteride) and Avodart (dutasteride) are not indicated for women.

Theradome™ can work in hair transplant patients both before and after the transplant. The company claims that the LH80 PRO alleviates trauma to transplanted follicles and assists in the growth of new hairs by accelerating the healing process, reducing redness, and encouraging transplanted follicles to grow faster.

The LH80 PRO laser hair therapy device uses voice technology to tell you the number of treatments you have had, if the device’s battery is low, and if there are any updates. To clean the device, use a cloth to clean off any residues or oils. No special cleaners are necessary.

As with all low level laser therapy (LLLT) devices, Theradome™ has not been shown to produce any side effects. It is not recommended for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
